This is interesting, I think a couple other points worth considering:
• How does the Dominican, Asian, and Hasidic Jewish communities in NYC feel on the topic? They are large voting blocs that I assume are pro-police?
• Crime actually went down an additional 40% under De Blasio -- I think that and the "no chaos in 2014" point would have made a good argument for diversifying public safety spending (although I never really heard anyone making this point)
• Would be interesting to revisit this topic in light of pandemic increases in violent crime
