Great piece but I think you describe how people perceive Brad and Eric but not how they actually would govern.
I believe Brad is far closer to AOC's politics than you think. Should he become comptroller or ever become mayor, you can choose whatever term you want - left progressive socialist - but Brad would be the most liberal person to fill those posts in history.
And Eric is really more of a centrist or perhaps even slightly right of center.
Both though I believe are happy with how the voters perceive them and believe that is the those are their best paths to election.

I hope you can comment further in the future on the elite academic origins of "identity politics" as it is being practiced in New York today.
