No Ranked Choice Voting, no public financing, no field of 12 candidates, low turnout compared to 2021, especially upstate, 25-30% might be enough to win … redistricting will undoubtedly benefit Democrats who want to grab Republican seats, should make for more competitive democratic congressional primaries, and let’s not forget, Andrew might look for a resurrection.. with a 3 or 4 way race and 20M in the war chest .. the Albany legislative session might be lively

Jumane Williams’ “toothless city agency” is adept at playing to headline-grabbing statements while failing to even pick up the phone and answer voicemails left by constituents for the past six months. Why even have an agency that tax payer fund and where there’s a top-down culture of who gives a ——? At least under James, employees picked up the phone, requested documents and responded with emails. Under Williams, zilch, including messages left on his and his deputy’s vmails. The truth is, until you’ve been shortchanged, to put it nicely, or screwed, by a city agency that is supposed to be advocating for and serving you, you don’t know if their leadership is worth damn behind the headlines they expertly garner. Have you looked at and through the Mayors Management Reports for Public Advocates Office? Do you have any idea If they’ve helped resolve any constituent complaints against any city agency or an initiative such as the nightmare that has become the NYC Commission on Human Rights? Come on down into the trenches, like I am, and do some investigating instead of hypothesizing. Do some good.

Great analysis. I'm curious what policies Williams would be running on. For example, he's a supporter of the New Deal for CUNY proposal and that's the kind of big, and very feasible, demand that could give much more teeth to his campaign beyond going negative against Hochul. I to ask the same of Hochul/James, what are their visions of the state, and selfishly New York City??

"Among certain wealthier white liberals and suburban moderates, a state attorney general is a more attractive option than a candidate who proudly brands himself as an “activist” elected official."

I don't think wealthy suburbanites are the only ones who might see a candidate with a real public service job as preferable to a candidate with a fake one.

Just because de Blasio is a managerial train wreck doesn't mean that Williams would be, too... but I do think that the BdB show made it harder for an NYC public advocate to jump into statewide executive leadership.
